Are you a person of mixed Jewish ancestry? Whether you identify as Jewish or non-Jewish, this house of Israel is yours.

Who Are We?

The Alliance of Patrilineal Jews (APJ) was formed due to the unique circumstances of being born of a Jewish father and a non-Jewish mother. In traditional Judaism, people of solely patrilineal descent are considered Gentiles, which is hardly an accurate description of people with profound cultural or religious influences from Judaism. At other times, they are considered neither Jewish nor Gentile, a confounding way of categorizing that denies any true group identity. While vulnerable to anti-Semitism, those of patrilineal descent do not benefit from the automatic group inclusion and support offered to those of matrilineal descent.

Our Mission

The APJ seeks full acceptance of the offspring of Jewish men and non-Jewish women, for which there is historical precedent. Our mission is to ensure a more inclusive environment within Judaism for these individuals so that they feel welcome to participate in religious, cultural, and outreach activities, unencumbered by the denial of identity. Our organization considers this to be an important moral issue, as the offspring of Jewish women and non-Jewish men are already afforded such acceptance. Finally, we hope to dispel the myth that the offspring of such unions represent a threat to the continued existence of Judaism or the Jewish people.
